Perhaps the most important consideration when it is time to choose a toilet for your bathroom is its flushing capability. A toilet can only use about 1.6 gallons of water so the methods by which it can be flushed can determine how effective the toilet is. There are currently two flushing methods that are in use. One is the gravity system. It is the system which has been used for several decades.

Some toilet models have larger trap ways while others use suction and smaller trap ways. The other flushing method is pressure-assisted. This type of toilet has a container inside the tank which holds compressed air. When the toilet is flushed, this compressed air helps to push all the contents in the toilet down the drain.
